flareform
a projection mapping project that plays with light, geometry, and movement. Working with two other designers, we transformed angular shapes into dynamic, glowing surfaces using bold red and white animations. The shifting visuals create an immersive experience, making the forms feel like they’re pulsing with energy and blending the digital with the physical.
The form was to be created with cardstock, so it had to be something we could fold into shape pretty simply. I sketched a few iterations of potential shapes and was drawn to the dynamics between multiple shapes.
To bring in a sense of cohesiveness, we aligned on the colors of red and black all tried to play with the triangular shape. We stitched together 25-second animation increments. My portion is from 0:03 - 0:28 seconds in the video below. I played on the lines of the triangular pyramids and used particular movements to push past those ridges. I wanted the two forms to feel separate but connected through the particles.

I used Adobe After Effects to create my animations and visuals. We used Millumin to project our visuals onto our sculpture.
